We seek to understand and incorporate the concerns of communities regarding the health and safety aspects of biofuel and biochar production and transportation

Health and Safety

Biochar and associated biofuels offer many possibilities for atmospheric carbon reduction as well as increased soil productivity, but it is important to recognize the safety and health concerns that must be addressed in order to ensure truly sustainable production of these new resources. This project is committed to exploring the potential for biofuel and biochar production in the safest manner possible.

Address the concerns of communities regarding the health and safety aspects of biofuel and biochar production and transportation

With interest in biochar increasing worldwide, several initiatives are currently underway to help guide policy and regulate processes associated with biochar production. One is the International Biochar Initiative (IBI); another is the Biochar Research Assessment Framework (BRAF). We will be working with both of these groups to ensure that best practices for biofuel and biochar production are employed, and that stakeholder communities are informed appropriately about the potential risks deriving from the production and transportation processes.
